CES 2016: What I'ld give to be there!

CES 2016!!!

The prestigious Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is the premier consumer electronic show (pun intended) of the world. It's one of those events I'ld give the world to attend.  Organized by the Consumer Technology Association, the CES is a global consumer electronics and consumer technology tradeshow that takes place every January in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 2016 edition was as exciting as ever! The top-guns as well as the new entrants were all on hand to display their prototypes and next-gen consumer products.

You can read all about it here.  What I really want to comment on are the trends noticed at the event. The environment was a noticeable theme in this years CES show. We see products 'with the environment at heart'. Well, this is to be expected. There has been a general increase in the peoples' consciousness of environmental issues. This is a good example of where market drives the technology.

Health and well-being is also making the rounds in 2016 CES. Aside from the barrage of heart-rate measuring wristbands and phone apps, I personally like the Enko Running Shoe. I could use those for a couple of jugging sessions. However, it remains to be seen if the sudden craze about health fitness can be sustained.

Automation and robotics are also making a strong showing. I think we always knew it was a matter of time before these find their way into consumer electronics. Automation and robotics just have that wow effect that is irresistible! Well, I personally don't mind a robot cooking my meals!

Overall, consumer electronics as we know it is definitely much more sophisticated. I hope these translate into a real impact on our standard of living.
